The HistoryAndThe STORY!
CONCEPTUAL MOTION ORCHESTRA
The ConceptualMotion Orchestra is a group of 20 stellar musicians from NYC led by alto-saxophonist, conductor, composer, arranger, Jorge Sylvester. This eclectic group masterfully interprets the compositions of Sylvester and vocal artist, composer, poet, Nora McCarthy. Performing since their debut at The University of the Streets, in November in 2001, they have performed in many venues throughout New York and make their home at the Baha'i Center through jazz curator Mike Longo at University Place in NYC. This video is from their performance at the renowned annual Vision Festival X in 2005 at the historic Angel Orensantz Center. The music and arrangements take an open and unpredictable harmonic approach to composition that challenges traditional formulas often subscribed to by other large ensembles. They perform a mixture of obtuse compositional structures, open form blues and Afro-Caribbean highly charged rhythmic pieces within a free collective expression that includes poetry.
